There's a story about a man who wanted to take some of his friends to a baseball game. He got tickets and picked up everyone in time for the game. Of course, everyone was excited and ready to be a part of this great outing. For some, this was the first time that some even attended a baseball game. The man taking everyone had to pull up to an automated teller machine (ATM-for those that don't know the acronym). He had to make a withdrawal and get some cash for the game to spend on food and parking and other expenses. Upon doing the transaction, he received a receipt but no cash. He later pulled off and put the receipt in his pocket and said, "these machines never know how to work right, anyway." So he asked around in the car if anyone had money and luckily people had plenty of cash to cover themselves as well as the driver. What happened was that the man made a withdrawal before making any deposits. It almost makes him look selfish because he is looking for his needs rather than taking care of others needs.
Do you ever think that its difficult NOT to be selfish in the society that we live in?
Sometimes we get into the mentality of taking care of our needs and making sure that we are satisfied before helping or even thinking about anyone around us or next to us. THEN, we always ask for favors and deals when we haven't done anything for them.
So then the typical response is, "who are you to ask me to do that?" or
It's amazing what you can expect or just simply see in others when you invest in them or make a deposit into them. What if you were to take 5 secs and give a compliment or start out with positives before demanding negatives or calling out the reality that may enable them to have their guard up?
Here's a short scenario of a man who would drive into one of their favorite restaurants. This restaurant was fancy too, a bit upscale. The place had valet parking and classy dress and nice service inside. Typically when people pull up for valet parking, they toss the keys or just extend the arm to give the lot attendants, almost as if they are just servants. One couple pulled up and instead of simply tossing the keys, they made it a point to just take a few seconds and shake their hand. Ask them how they were? How was their day? It turned a typical work-serious face into a smiled-relax face. At the end of the night, when they were ready to leave, the couple that invested time had their call pull up first out of all the people waiting for their car. The doors were open and better treatment was given also.
Why not change someone else's day so that you can anticipate people to change yours for the better?
Much love
